Ken (known as Ken Sidley in the industry as no one could spell his last name) spent over 40 years in the printing industry. He worked hard to make a living in sales and came to be well loved and respected. He worked long hours, enjoying the camaraderie of his coworkers and creating a positive work environment. He grew to love his profession and I know he missed every single day he could not be a part of it which came in the later years as the life he knew in printing lost its luster.
One of his favorite quotes (as his brother Rick pointed out) was
“If it was meant to be it’s up to me”
He definitely fulfilled his goal of being the ultimate salesman.
He loved going to the Del Mar races, listening to the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin and watching many of the old classical movies, a favorite being “It’s a Wonderful Life” with Jimmy Stewart.
You could ask him anything about the classics and he knew the movie.
He was generous with family and friends and loved eating out or having a house full of food and company.
That’s when he really got to tell all his jokes. He never met a food he didn’t like and would be happy to sit all day watching sports with a bag of Lays Potato Chips. He was approachable and funny and would always find ways to connect with people. His sense of humor usually got him through any challenges that life brought him.
We met at an advertising company called Chiat/ Day, married in 1973 and had two beautiful daughters who were the love of his life.
Thank you to all who made his journey through life pleasurable. When he mentioned a name from his vast network of work friends it was always with a big smile as he would relate antics or jokes that made him chuckle. We will all miss him. He lived the life he chose with gusto.
I am comforted knowing that he is probably with all the buddies that went before him. So many of them I know as he kept them close to his heart and talked of them often.
He was truly a people person.
