Mary Jo Smith Obituary (1946 - 2026)

Mary Jo Smith, affectionately known as Jo, Jojo, Grammy, and MiMi, passed away on August 13, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on June 1, 1946 in Pennsylvania. She spent a life that took her from the rolling hills of her birth state to the sun-kissed landscapes of Henderson, Nevada, where she spent the final years of her life. Jo’s life was a beautiful tapestry of love, laughter, and generosity, much like the paintings she so passionately created. A gifted decorative house painter, Jo filled her work with the same love, generosity, and spirited energy that she extended to all those around her. Her creative work mirrored the care she bestowed upon her family, friends, and everyone she met. She was a beacon of warmth, radiating love and acceptance. She carried a spark that could light up a dim room. She did not just live, she embraced life with open arms, a loud laugh, and a heart that had room for anyone she met. To know Jo was to feel seen. She did not judge. She welcomed strangers like old friends and treated friends like family. She loved her family fiercely. If you crossed her path, you left with a smile, a warm hug, or a story you would always remember. She also found immense pleasure in golfing, reading, and most importantly, spending time with her beloved grandkids. Jo is survived by her loving husband, Bernard Smith, and their cherished children, Shawn Smith and Michele Schuffert. She also leaves behind a loving family that includes her daughter-in-law, Candi Smith and son-in-law, Daniel Schuffert; grandchildren, Dustin Schuffert (Paige Schuffert), Sarah Velasquez (Santi Velasquez), Heidi Schuffert (Josh Bluhm), Hunter Powers (Ariel Powers), and Leaf Smith; great-grandchildren, Hazel, Henry, Hadley and Hayden Schuffert, Thiago and Isabella Velasquez, and Everett Powers. Also, mourning her loss are her siblings, Colleen Healey-Hunter ( Sam Allocco), Peggy Savage, Michael Healey (Dawn Healey), and Faith Taylor. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and James Healey, and her brother, James Healey and brother-in-law, Robert Savage. To remember Jo is to celebrate her life, her generosity, her spirited nature, and her loving heart. We invite you to share your memories of her, upload photos, and celebrate her life on her memorial page. Each story, each picture, and each memory is a testament to a life well-lived, a life full of love and warmth. Let us remember Jo, not with sadness, but with the joy and laughter that she brought into our lives.
