Patricia Akers-Shink, 81, passed away on Sunday June 18th, Father’s Day, which is fitting, as she was the light of her father’s life. She was born on February 14, 1942, in Dayton, Ohio. She graduated from Fairmont High in 1960. Patricia married Charles Akers in 1962 and had two children, Jeffrey Akers who resides in Cerritos, California, and Kristi Crofford who resides in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Patricia was a homemaker in Xenia and Kettering, Ohio, who raised her children by introducing them to baseball, music, dance, and baton lessons. She was very artistic and painted, sewed, and quilted.
In 1979, the family moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, after visiting on vacation. The couple acquired the
John-Lyn Secretarial Service and Patricia provided various types of administrative services to locals and tourists alike.
In 1991, the couple divorced but remained good friends their entire lives, continuing to be part of gatherings, birthdays, holidays, and sporting events, enjoying precious time together with their family.
In 1998, Patricia married Henry Shink from Seattle, Washington. They were married until Patricia’s passing and Henry lovingly took care of Patricia until the very end.
Patricia and Henry relocated to Fort Mohave, Arizona, and enjoyed living on the golf course, traveling,
and Patricia’s new passion for embroidering. She lovingly created blankets, wall hangings, pillows and clothing for her friends and family until the uterine cancer no longer allowed her to sit at the machine, which would be the case for the last six months of her life. Henry and Patricia returned to Las Vegas to reside in 2018. Patricia was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of traveling to Hawaii and to also visit Lake Tahoe shortly before her death.
Patricia is preceded in death by her parents, William and Julia Shertzer and her Aunt, Marie Shertzer.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Shink; son, Jeffrey Akers (Yesenia); daughter, Kristi Crofford (Steven); grandchildren, Alexandra Pennington (Dannah), Andrew Cox (Rachel), Aaron Cox (Sue-Ann), Anthony Cox (Nicole), Steven Crofford (Tiffany), Amanda Crofford, Pierce Akers, and Penelope Akers; as well as her great-grandchildren, Harper, Charlie, Jordan, Dominic, and Calista.
The family would like to thank the Southwest Medical Hospice staff for their wonderful in-home hospice care for the past year of Patricia’s life, and Simple Cremation for their kindness and compassion.
A celebration of Patricia’s life is being planned at a future date. Please contact skcrofford@gmail.com for more information.
