William J. Irvine Jr.

William “Bill” J. Irvine Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, surrounded by his two loving daughters.

Bill was the son of William Irvine and Elaine Michelz. He is survived by his two devoted daughters: Noeleen Irvine Schmidt (David) of Las Vegas, Nevada and Jennifer Niborski (Michael) of Mirfield, United Kingdom, his three precious grandchildren: Sophia (12), Grayson (10) and Andrew (9) and his two loving sisters: Carol Lynn Stolicker of Grand Blanc, Michigan, and Nancy Ann Prout of Lakeland, Florida.

Bill was proud to be an Army Veteran and was an active member of the American Legion Post 8 in Las Vegas. He served as an Infantry Sargent during the Vietnam War. Upon his return to the United States, he joined Michigan Bell/Ameritech. He started his career with the phone company as a lineman in February 1971 and retired as the President of the Local. One of his greatest achievements was being elected by the men and woman of Communication Workers of America, Local 4100 (AFL-CIO). He was honored to have represented them from 2003-2005.

Upon retiring from Ameritech, Bill immediately transitioned to City Council. He was elected to a seat at the City Council table in Garden City, Michigan. He proudly served the families in Garden City until he moved to Las Vegas.

Bill spent the last 16 years of his life as a resident of Las Vegas, traveling back and forth to Michigan. He was an avid Michigan sports fan. He was a passionate football supporter of the Detroit Lions, watching them WIN on his final day. He could hear, “The Roar.”

Bill devoted much of his time to help men and woman who struggled with substance abuse. He was a 34-year friend of Bill W. and loved the fellowship that became his second family. The impact he had on the lives of others will live on. As his family, we would like to thank the “Glum Lot” for giving him the tools to be present in our lives.

I had the pleasure of meeting Bill through his daughter Noeleen. I felt not only grateful but honored. He was such a pleasant man who smiled and seemed so comfortable in meeting new people. As Noeleen would go on to let me know his background, I fully understood.
So happy that his final days were spent with his two loving daughters and his son-in-law.
My heartfelt condolences to his family and may he rest in peace.
